June Retiree Report

UAW  Our June 2nd, 2016 retirees meeting convened at 12:00 noon with 213 members and guests in attendance. These luncheon get togethers are made possible because Peggie Sponsler and Orville Clark work tirelessly to establish a workable menu and then compile the fixings. I'm guessing they've got contacts in every grocery store in Defiance. Well done Peggie and Orville.

A big "Thank You" to our kitchen help Jerry and Karen Mangas, Adrian and Pat Kuhlman, and John and Carol Ehlinger.

We were led in Invocation by Norma English, the Pledge of Allegiance by Peggie Sponsler, and the Financial Report by Vice Chair Orville Clark.

President Keith Boecker reported on the award of the $10,000 Richard T. Gosser Scholarship to Chandler James Kelley, a senior at Ayersville High School and the son of active G.M. employee James Kelly and grandson of G.M. retiree Jerry Retcher. President Boecker also informed us that Cedar Point discount tickets will be available soon for the
week of July 3rd - July 9th.

An interesting item to note; at the end of 2015, Region 2-B retirees numbered 128,548 members. That's a powerful number of voters.

Sarah Laws, of Region 2B, spoke of the UAW decision to endorse Hillary Clinton for President because Bernie Sanders has no clear path to the Presidency. Sarah spoke of the purging of voters names from the polls going on in Ohio, and how we must vote regularly because otherwise our names would be removed from polls and we'd have no voice in these very important elections.

Bob Wagner is actively working on the list of dues paying members of UAW Local 211 and will eventually post said list at our Union Hall.

There'll be no retiree meeting for the month of July so we take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and fun filled Independence Day.

Join us for our next meeting on August 4th. Lunch at 10:30 and meeting to commence at 12:00 Noon.  See you then.
