June Retiree Report

UAW  We had 185 retirees at our June meeting. Susie’s Catering from Bryan served us grilled hamburgers and potato salad which was enjoyed by all.

Orville Clark led us in the pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silence was observed for our deceased members.

Keith Boecker, President reported that there are two new retirees from our GM plant in June. He congratulated them and wished them a very happy and healthy retirement. Keith informed us that our Secretary, Lisa Beardsley will be receiving an award for her years of service and volunteering to the American Cancer Society, Defiance Relay for Life. Lisa as of last year surpassed $100,000 for this charity. She held the Local 211, UAW team event “Rockin' for a Cure” and raised over $6,000.

Darla Rickenberg, Local 211 UAW Benefit Representative reminded us to check our mail for information labeled Medical Benefits (Trust). She emphasized to make sure we keep an eye out for this important information and to make sure we all read it. The Trust will begin mailings in late June. Retirees should update RHCC with address changes call 1-866-637-7555. As a reminder to retirees who marry or re-marry and wish to have surviving spouse coverage contact must be made. Check with benefits for notification deadline to elect this coverage.

Ted Fleming organized a rally along with the UAW CAP council in downtown Defiance in front of Bob Latta’s office to show our disappointment in the Trump/Pence Healthcare Bill. Latta is not holding a town meeting so we took our voices to his office. It appears also that he is not supporting Medicare or Social Security. 76.6% of our UAW retirees are on Medicare so please call Senator Rod Portman and voice your concerns and ask him to vote no on this terrible bill; 866-834- 6910. We had 62 people join us, most of which were UAW retirees.

Ted also informed us that we have four couples who will be attending Black Lake Family Education center in Michigan in July.

Our July meeting is cancelled which makes our next meeting on Thursday August 3rd.

Kitchen help for August is Dennis Stark and John Briones. We could use a few more helpers so please volunteer. Lunch will be served at 10:30 and the meeting begins at 12:00 NOON.

Enjoy your 4th of July Holiday and we hope to see you all in August.
